Emergency Procedures

Our procedures ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of every child during emergencies.

Medical Emergencies

In case a child needs to be transported to a nearby hospital, the following procedure will be applied:

  • The administrator will immediately call 911 and remain on the phone until help arrives.
  • A teacher will accompany the child in the ambulance and remain with the child. The child’s file will be taken.
  • The administrator will contact the parents by phone.
  • If parents cannot be reached immediately, an emergency contact provided at enrollment will be contacted.
  • The administrator will continue attempting to reach the parents until contact is made.

Field Trips & Walks

  • All emergency cards will be up to date and carried at all times.
  • A designated staff member will carry a small first aid kit.
  • The administrator will ensure all emergency supplies are checked monthly.
Signs indicating locations for first aid and health care policies are posted in each classroom.

Emergency Evacuation

Evacuation procedures are posted in each classroom. Teachers are trained during orientation on evacuation routes.

  • Each classroom is provided with a clipboard listing enrolled children.
  • Teachers must bring the clipboard to the designated evacuation location.

During evacuation:

  • Infants will be placed in evacuation cribs and escorted out by a teacher.
  • Toddlers and preschoolers will walk in a line to the designated location.
  • A teacher will lead the line and another will follow to ensure all children arrive safely.
  • Each teacher will conduct a head count upon arrival.
  • The administrator will complete a final walk-through to ensure no one remains inside.
  • A folder containing all emergency cards will be brought to the designated location.

Fire Drills

Fire drills are conducted monthly. A fire drill log is posted in the director’s office and records the date, time, and efficiency of each drill.
